Synopsis
While playing with a spirit board, two sorority sisters summon the vindictive spirits of three women brutally murdered by a psychopath. Join Logan, Kacie, and the rest of the Orion Circle as they delve into the disturbing events of the past to find the key to freeing the spirits.
But this isn’t any ordinary haunting. These ghosts were banished before, and now they have returned more powerful than anyone could have imagined. Anger breeds hatred and hatred leads to darkness—these phantoms are on the verge of losing their last spark of humanity and becoming completely lost to the shadows.
Can Logan and Kacie convince the tortured souls to embrace the light and move on, or will the spirits succumb to the hypnotic pull of evil, leading to an eternity of torment and suffering?
My Thoughts
This will be my second time reviewing for The Orion Circle series by Kimber Leigh Wheaton. I reviewed the first book in the series, Tortured Souls, in October 2014. I really enjoyed the first book and couldn’t wait for this one. Wheaton did not disappoint!
Twisted Sisters was a really fun read and it stayed true to the young adult genre. I appreciate that Wheaton didn’t spend an entire chapter recapping the previous story in the series, as many authors tend to do, and instead gave a few references here or there, but let the story tell itself. The students in the book are true to their ages and are well-developed. Each character has their own internal battles that are age-appropriate and follow up well from the previous novel.
The dialogue is fun and realistic. The imagery in the story is excellent; I really felt like I was a part of the story, seeing the ghosts, familiars, and different settings of the novel. Though there are darker themes of evil and violence, I found this to be a great read. I like that this wasn’t a bright, chipper story, and instead had a good balance.
The story itself is exciting and I found myself soaring through the pages, wanting to find out what happened next. Wheaton’s writing has only gotten better since the previous Orion Circle release and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next for this series.
