(Q) Quality versus quantity

One of the worst things an author can do is drag a book series on forever in order to boost sales. I can think of a few book series off the top of my head that could be condensed down into half the books that were actually released. Cliffhangers are all well and good, but only when they’re necessary to push plot. Ending a book randomly, without any sort of closure for the reader is cruel and sadly not unusual punishment.

There are ways to boost sales that don’t include extending a book series. More books doesn’t necessarily mean more sales. I’m one of those readers that don’t allow myself to get hooked on a series if I suspect this type of scamming.

What about you? Have you come across this in your reading?
