A Little Update

Life has been pretty crazy lately, but I can’t complain too much. reading mindEach day is a brand new adventure, especially when I have a book in my hands. There’s something wonderful
about going from the stress of the day to the comfort of words on a page. Reading is yoga for the mind, and I love finding my Zen.

Here’s a little update on what’s been going on with me:

  • I was laid off of my full-time job the week before Christmas. The company I was working for laid off 200 employees, and since I was one of the most recent to start, I was one of the first ones out. Being a recruiter during a hiring freeze isn’t promising, since the work relies heavily on hiring. It’s been a rocky road, but I am confident I will find something great again. In the meantime, I’ve been keeping busy.
  • I’ve been spending a LOT of time with my almost 5-month-old son. He’s pretty fantastic, honestly. I’m constantly amazed by him. You can read more about my adventures as a first time mom over on my other blog, Steps In Mommyhood.
  • I’ve been editing Michele G Miller’s soon-to-be published book titled West and it’s soooo good. West is a mirror of the From The Wreckage series, but from West’s point of view. This is one that you seriously shouldn’t miss! More information to come!
  • I am really excited to announce that I am now Mindy Hayes’ proofreader! I love her writing style and energy, and I can’t wait to dive into her work! I may also have another client for editing, though this has not been confirmed yet. If you’re interested in my editing services, please reach out to me. 🙂
  • I started school back up on January 4th and I’m enjoying my class on Organizational Development. Still maintaining my 4.0 GPA and balancing all of life’s goodies. I’m also looking into taking some editing courses to continue honing my skills and staying up-to-date.
  • I signed up for the A-to-Z Challenge again this year. Since I jumped on board so early for this go around, I am working on pre-loading all of my entries to stay on target. More on this to come in a separate post. In the meantime, if you have a blog, definitely consider signing up for this.

I’m working on creating a better system for posting on this blog in general. I will be working in editing and style tips, writing prompts, and other fun things. Keep your eyes peeled for more!

What have I been up to lately?

Life sure does have a habit of hopping in the way of, well, life. At least that’s how it was for the first few months of this year. This life, however, is one I’m so excited about. I’ve been “growing a baby” since January and I can’t wait to meet him. While this little bundle of crazy kicks and internal snuggles is growing, I’ve also been doing some other fun things.

I’ve been working my regular job and continuing my grad school work slowly but surely.

Beyond that, I’ve been working my fun job! Editing! Earlier in the year, I edited Michele’s newest book Into The Fire. This book is so well-written – you can read my review on Amazon here. The last couple of months have been spent doing a cover-to-cover re-release edit of both of Michele G. Miller’s Prophecy of Tyalbrook books. Let me start out by saying that Never Let You Fall was my first introduction to Michele. I got it for free as a special deal when I got my Kindle and figured “Hey, why not?” Prior to this I really hadn’t read much indie work… then BAM! I met Skye and Xander, and then searched Michele’s author page on Facebook. The rest is really history… At this point, I’ve edited five of her books on some level.

Now I’m back at reading again and it’s wonderful.

For those of you who visit my blog regularly, you may have noticed there has been a significant face lift. I’ve edited my pages, added surveys for book review requests and editing service inquiries. I also added a glossary of the reviews I’ve posted to this blog. I’m liking it thus far.

Their journey began with a

promise…

“I won’t let you fall. You will not die for

me. I can’t

live with that, Xander, and I would rather let them take me before I let them

kill you.” He opened his mouth to argue, but I held up my hand. “Don’t argue

it. There’s no point. I’ve made up my mind.”

He shook his head, but didn’t argue.

Instead, he promised as

he always did, “If anything happens to you… if we get separated, if you martyr

yourself… anything, Skye. As long as I am breathing, I will always find you.

Always.”

Those were precisely the words I’d

counted on him saying.

AN ORPHAN with no memory of her past

and no hope for her

future.

A GUARDIAN determined to keep her

safe.

A DESTINY neither of

them expected.

Never Let You Go-ebooklg

Two souls desperate to discover the

truth about the past and determined to save their future…

SKYE

The usual warmth I felt deep in my soul

when Xander was near me was beginning to dull. Yet I still remembered the warning:

“Be careful, my Princess…you will lose all you love before you can win what you

want.”

XANDER

I could feel it; she hadn’t been here.

Two days of hell, riding as fast as we could and only taking small breaks, and

yet she had outrun us. How?

A PRINCESS set on regaining her

Kingdom

and protecting those she loves…

A GUARDIAN who will stop at nothing to

find the woman who stole his heart…

An EVIL FORCE who will destroy

everything they know in order to have power over all…

The journey continues in Never Let You

Go, book two in The Prophecy of Tyalbrook Series.

E: Editing

Ever since I was a little bookworm, I consume literature like a mad woman. The books spanned all over many genres and were a wide array of reading levels since I was above my age expectation. I always read ahead in class when most others were moving at a slower pace and I tended to get into trouble for reading books under my desk during other subjects. I remember being excited for D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) time, pulling out my book and happily floating along the pages. (This particular memory has me reading one of the Wayside School books.)

Being the bookworm that I was, I found out pretty quickly that I had a knack for reading a professionally published piece of literature and finding errors that were missed by the editors. It was like a little game of mine. As I have grown older, this skill has only grown, along with my passion for reading. After a double major is English and Journalism in undergrad, I decided to start this blog over a year ago so I could combine a few joys of mine and share them with those who have similar interests. Little did I know my editing skills would find a home as well.

I have had the truly wonderful opportunity to edit for Michele G Miller for almost a year now and I’m loving every minute of it. There is something soothing and natural to me about editing pieces of literature. A comma here. An extra word there. A suggestion on wording down there. On top of this, I have an appreciation for the creative license that every writer holds; sometimes the story requires some funky punctuation choices and at other times it needs something more rigid. Being an indie editor has allowed me to adapt, but also to have my own voice. It’s my own little mark on the indie world that I have come to love so much.

Show Some Love Blog Hop and Giveaway

Valentines Blog Hop Header

Today I am showing some love to Michele G. Miller, the author that I’ve been working for in the last many moons first on her street team and as a Beta, and then as her editor. Jeesh, I love her books. She plays around in so many genres and isn’t afraid to try a new style. The ideas that are swimming around in her head are really exciting to see come out on the page. And hey, she’s given me the chance to do a dream job.

It’s really hard for me to pick a favorite of her books. Perhaps I could go with The Prophecy of Tyalbrook series because of the young adult, fantasy awesome it entails. Her leading man is pretty great, too. (Mmmm, Xander. *sigh*) Or maybe I will go with The Last Call series because she jumps into the New Adult world and, well, yay Aussie bartender. But I’m currently stuck on the From The Wreckage series. I got to read the first two books as a part of her street team and absolutely loved them, then hopped in to edit the last book in the series, her most recent release.

All of Michele’s books can be found on the various book buying sites, my go to being Amazon. So, do yourselves a favor and jump in on the love. Visit Michele’s blog page and find buy links to all of her books.

My Life, Fun Things, and “All That Remains” by Michele G. Miller

I have been a little busy over the last few months. Let’s see… what was I doing?
  • Working my HR job
  • Applying to grad school (Got in!)
  • Reading a whole heck of a lot
  • Spending time with family and friends
  • Helping friends prep for weddings and various other parties/life events
  • Had a week-long stay-cation with the husband
  • Had a sleepover party with the nieces (4y and 9y!)

And there was something else… Let’s see… what was it?

All That Remains Cover

Oh ya, I was editing Michele G. Miller’s final installment in the From The Wreckage series – All That Remains. I can’t begin to tell you how absolutely incredible this series is, all bias aside. But jeesh, let me tell you something – it’s so cool to see my name up there next to “Editor” on Amazon. Besides that, it was pretty amazing utilizing my degrees, having first looks at such a wonderful book, and getting to know Michele G. Miller even better. (She’s pretty awesome. If you haven’t checked her out – Go check her out on Facebook!)

West Quote ATR

This series has brought me through a roller coaster of emotion and I’m quite a fan of Michele writing in this genre. She has the ability to grab you with the use of well-developed and relatable characters, the right amount of description, sensory-driven imagery, and realistic dialogue. I can’t wait to have it on my book shelf. 🙂

I can’t wait to see what happens next for these characters, even if it’s just in cameo appearances in spin-offs or whatever comes our way. I’m pretty thrilled I got another book boyfriend out of the deal (those Rutledge brothers are pretty.. uh.. they have great personalities. Ya know? 😛 )

This was a really fun journey to be a part of and I can’t wait to see what’s next… in the interim, pick up this book series. Book 1 is FREE!! And for more information about my editing services, please find a link at the top of my blog.
